The New Millenium
In 1947, Ann Cox Williams (pictured above) shocked Atlanta with a weekly grocery budget of $12.50 a week for a family of four – she was an extreme couponer and spent time, patience and diligence.
Can it be done today? Maybe not at $12.50 per week, but a weekly food budget can be minimized using her approach:
- Careful meal planning
- Looking through all the available coupons
- Studying store circulars
- Finding out what else is on sale at the store
- Going to two or three grocery stores each week
- Eliminating meat in lunches
- a lot of hamburger or other inexpensive meat
- and that's just the top seven tips.
Whew. God bless her.
Most of us are not up for that routine. Going to multiple stores is doable, especially to stock up. And if you get the Sunday paper, there are a lot of coupons to go through.
But with technology today, there has to be an easier way.
As of December 9th, 2024, there isn't. But an easier way is coming. The Grocer Green team is working on the app and the technology to save you money. OK, not down to $12.50 a week (which was crazy cheap back in 1947), but saving you money without any effort.
Besides saving you money without any work (which is fabulous), you can use it at all your favorite grocery stores. One app. One click. Money in your pocket. Easy lettuce, what a gas! (isn't that what they'd say?)
